EcoBug 1
Grease Degrader

The Product
EcoBug 1 is a specially selected blend of non-toxic natural microbes, which digest oils, fats, greases and other organic matter blocking drainage systems. This can then be flushed away, leaving them grease free with no odour problems.

EcoBug 1 is demonstrably more effective than conventional or enzyme based drain cleaners as a bio-film is formed which produces a continuous and renewable supply of highly active enzymes for fat and grease degradation. This bio-film adheres to the drainage system walls and is highly resistant to cleaning fluids and disinfectants, thus providing a longer lasting protection than enzyme or caustic products which have minimal contact time.

Applications
The primary application of EcoBug 1 is in restaurants, hotels, schools, food preparation and processing establishments where regular quantities of solid food wastes find their way into the drainage system. These deposits often block grease traps and line waste pipes, leading to unpleasant odours and unhygienic conditions, which invariably need chemical or mechanical treatment.

Regular application of EcoBug 1 will:

  • eliminate blockages
  • eliminate odours
  • eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals
  • eliminate the need for expensive rodding
  • provide an improved working environment
  • not effect drainage walls and bondings
  • significantly reduce B.O.D’s and C.O.D’s

UK Legislation recognises the risk:
The Building Regulations 2000 [ H1 Foul Water Drainage – 2.21 ] requires that all kitchen drainage in commercial hot food premises should be fitted with an effective means of grease removal.

A commercial kitchen without an effective means of grease removal contravenes the regulations.

THE PROBLEM WITH GREASE TRAPS
Bulky grease traps are expensive to install, can take up valuable space and can be very difficult to clean around, creating further hazards. Grease traps need emptying and managing, which rarely happens. Lack of maintenance leaves a foul water reservoir, which becomes odorous and attracts vermin and insects. Cleaning grease traps is a foul job, which can result in kitchen contamination. If you worked in a kitchen, would you want to dredge out the grease trap?

THE SOLUTION
The Bacteria in EcoBug 1 releases enzymes to break down fats, oils and greases that occur in the drain environment. These microbes form a biofilm on the walls of the drainage system, which continuously releases enzymes, forming an effective barrier to solid grease deposits. The first sign of this degradation on an existing problem is emulsification of the fats which swell and become translucent. The fats are unable to solidify and pass further down the system for treatment in the sewage system. The longer the fats are in contact with the enzymes the further the effluent will be degraded.

Using EcoBug 1 in drains with grease traps
The use of EcoBug 1 will clean blocked or partially blocked systems, although it will take time if there are heavy grease deposits. Odours will be eliminated. Any “catch all” baskets will need emptying as they are not affected by EcoBug 1.
N.B - Grease traps are now frowned on and many authorities have banned their use in new or altered buildings. Architects are now specifying alternative systems, and are actively recommending biological systems.

Using EcoBug 1 in drains without grease traps
Daily dosing of EcoBug 1 will prevent any blockages in drain runs. The biofilm spreads throughout the system, eliminating any existing build-ups and keeping it free from future problems.
N.B - EcoBug 1 does not contain surfactants, unlike many competitive products. Although these hybrid products can be effective, they have the effect of increasing B.O.D, and authorities are increasingly banning the use of biological systems with surfactants.
Remember EcoBug 1 is the best product on the market!

How to use
EcoBug 1 is supplied in a concentrated form. Apply an initial dose of 10 litres to the system, followed by a dose of 150 mls per day. The dose should be introduced into the
head of the drainage system or immediately before the main entry point of the organic waste. Where possible avoid direct use of concentrated disinfectants, bleaches, detergents and biocides that may adversely affect the biofilm.

Health & Safety
The bacterial strains in EcoBug 1 are naturally occurring. Wash hands after use. Avoid ingestion and introduction to drinking water sources or foodstuffs. EcoBug 1 is a totally natural product and is not harmful to the environment. The concentrated liquid has a shelf life of eighteen months at 20°C.
